"Yeah, But..."

Many have theorized about the liberal mentality and motivation for what they do.  While almost everyone agrees (except for liberals in

denial) that Karl Marx seems to be the predominate theme within liberalism, I think some are missing a key element in the liberal argument.

Take a look at the picture above of Lady Justice.  She holds a balanced scale, is blindfolded, and has a sword of vengeance.  This 16th century version of Justice has carried through to today, is the most recognizable, and can be found in many courtrooms across the nation.  She represents that justice is fair but can be harsh.  However, the main theme is that justice does not take into account skin color, income, or circumstance - hence the blindfold Justice.

Liberals don't seem to understand these concepts.  Their ideology requires confrontation and rests on pitting one side against another.  As a result, liberals don't believe that justice, let alone any law, should be blind and balanced.  The liberal world is dominated by one phrase - "yeah, but".

Take the latest media feeding frenzy about the Arizona illegal immigration law.  Conservatives and those that understand what is going on will say illegal is illegal and skin color or nationality matters nothing.  The law is the law.  The Arizona law mirrors almost exactly what the federal law states about illegal immigration .  Liberals would say, "yeah, but" they just want a better life, to earn money, and feed their families.  Conservatives would say that illegals take jobs that should go to citizens, aka Americans.  Liberals would say "yeah, but" they take the jobs no American wants.  Conservatives would say that we need to enforce immigration laws and if that means deporting people, then that's what we have to do.  The law is the law.  Liberals would say, "yeah, but" what about the illegal immigrant's family?  "Yeah, but" what about their children born here?  "Yeah, but" what about the Statue of Liberty saying "give me your tired, huddled masses yearning to be free"?  Conservatives would say we need to secure the border to stem the tide of illegal immigration and in the name of national security.  Liberals would say, "yeah, but" businesses need cheap labor and if we cut off their supply of immigrant labor, then they'll close their doors and prices will go up.  Gov. Jim Edgar even went so far as to say they are vital to our economy.  Liberals will also say, "yeah but" the illegals need to flee their oppressive government or escape the possibility of being a victim of the drug gangs.  In other words, the liberals always have an excuse as to why the law should not be followed.

Abortion.  Conservatives say that life begins at conception.  Liberals say, "yeah, but" the woman has the right to choose because it's her body.

Taxes.  Conservatives say that we should pay too much in taxes (not least because of runaway government spending).  Liberal would say, "yeah, but" how much money is too much to have?  Taxes redistribute the wealth to those whom the evil American businessman exploits.

2nd amendment
.  Conservatives would say that our 2nd amendment right should not be infringed.  We have a right to bear arms.  Liberals would say, "yeah, but" guns kill people and therefore they should be banned or we should severely restrict their sale and ownership.

Role of government.  Conservatives say that government should stay within the confines of the Constitution and should meddle too much in business because too much regulation harms business.  Liberals say, "yeah, but" left to their own devices, business would not do the things government makes it do.  Besides, some businesses are too big to fail and therefore government should step in.

National security.  Conservatives say that we should take steps to ensure our military superiority and make sure rogue nations do not upset world peace or security, ie. North Korea, Iran.  Liberals say, "yeah, but" war is bad.  Besides, the only reason we are in different parts of the world is so business can protect their profits.

Justice.  Conservatives say that if you do the crime, you will do the time.  Capital punishment is the ultimate form of justice for the heinous crime of murder.  Liberals say, "yeah, but" the person on trial had a bad childhood so it's not his fault.  Besides, there are too many people in prison now because of our harsh judicial system.  In fact, capital punishment is nothing more than government sanctioned murder.

Do you see how easy it is to be a liberal sometimes?  All you have to do is insert "yeah, but" in order to undercut any argument, and then push your agenda/ideology.  While I feel for the person that is in their circumstances because of someone else, the ultimate difference between conservative and liberal is laid on the table - the power of the individual.  Conservatives believe that the individual can overcome all, sometimes with a little help, but in the end, a person is responsible for their fate.  Hard work and perseverance pay off.  Liberals would say, "yeah, but" the system is rigged.  People can't do it themselves without the government's assistance every step of the way because different "privileged" groups stand to benefit from people being oppressed.

In order to keep this article as short as possible, I'll let you come up with some more "yeah buts".
