Almost A Clean Sweep

How does the old Meatloaf song go? "2 out of 3 ain't bad"?  It's like the Republicans carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the ninth, but ended up giving up a hit to break up the no-no.  They still won the game, but everyone (the mainstream media) will remember the what might have been.  Despite all of that...

Huge win in Virginia by double digits.

Even bigger win with a smaller margin in New Jersey - a true victory in proven Obama country.

Hoffman loses.  The conservative hope falls due to Benedict Scozzafava, and a lack of a primary.  There may be other reasons as well, but I believe those two are the most important reasons for Hoffman's loss.

The mainstream media will gloss over the Corzine/Obama loss in New Jersey and beat the drum that conservatism and a conservative candidate cannot win.  They will say that Sarah Palin, GOP late endorsers, and conservative PACs/organizations could not bring home a victory.  They'll say the Tea Party movement could not bring home a victory.  They'll say that conservative values have no place in politics.  They'll say the Republican Party is fractured and in serious trouble.

I would argue that the Hoffman loss is a learning experience that can be carried into 2010.  Analysts on both sides will pick apart the election and see what the issues were and what the demographic voting says.  Polling services will dissect how many of  their polls were off.  Despite the fact that Hoffman has lost, he came within a few thousand votes of victory and that should tell anyone the viability of a conservative candidate.  Exactly what would the outcome have been if that $900,000 that RINO Scozzafava wasted went to Hoffman as the real Republican?

The real lesson learned in NY-23 is who to trust and who not to trust.  We know we cannot trust a RINO candidate.  We know that even with a close loss plus NJ and Virginia wins, conservatives and the Republican party will prevail in the mid-term elections.  We also know that our work is not done.  We know that we must push even harder.  Today was far from being a pyrrhic victory, but a foundation to build on for 2010 and 2012.
