Bizarro World
Those of you that remember comic books and the old Superman cartoons, there was a guy named Bizarro Superman who gained his power from a red sun instead of a yellow sun like our Superman. On Bizarro world, everything was opposite - up was down, good was bad, etc. He even talked bizarro English - like Yoda but a bit different. Sometimes hearing what our State Dept. is doing makes me feel that I'm living on Bizarro Earth...
The US State Dept has rejected the visa of the equivalent of Chief Justice of the Honduran Supreme Court because he led the effort to arrest ousted President Zelaya.
The Honduran government followed their Constitutional rules, arrested a President that was ignoring the Constitutional constraints placed on his office, appointed an interim President (President of the Honduran Senate) as per the Honduran Constitution, and set up elections for a new President in November. For shame!!!
One caveat though. The Honduran military was charged with arresting Zelaya, not kicking him out of the country.
That caveat aside, how much is the Obama administration bending over backwards to appease Chavez in Venezuela? It seems to be the policy of the current administration to appease anyone that disagrees with us. Let's take a quick look at Prime Minister Chamberlain, err, President Obama's appeasement around the world so far...
Russia - no medium range interceptor missiles placed in Poland yet which Russia opposes. No condemnation of what is going on in South Ossentia or in Georgia. But we got use of Russian airspace for the Afghan war. Yippie!
Venezuela - condemnation of Honduras. No free trade with Columbia. Wanting to open Cuba up for trade. Silence as Chavez cracks down on opposition. Speaking of which, Manual Rosales - ex-mayor of Caracas and Chavez opposer - to my knowledge is still out of country and has a warrant for "embezzlement". Same tactics Putin used against some of his opponents almost 8 years or so ago.
Iran - Ahmadinejad cracked down on those opposing his rigged re-election. Nothing said because the US fears Iran destabilizing the region further. Better to shut up than uphold the very Constitution values we believe everyone should enjoy.
N. Korea - Tough talk but you and I both know that we'll end up sending more aid in return for N. Korea shelving their nuclear program YET again. China's a bit irked, but still refused to support a tough UN Security Council resolution with some teeth. More blathering out of the UN.
Mexico - instead of enforcing the borders against the influx of drugs and illegals, we are talking about amnesty again. If we keep taking in Mexico's problems, how can we force the Mexican government to improve their economy and cut out corruption and drug trade? Keep the illegal "tired, huddled masses yearning to be free" at home to make their government change their ways and force the drug gangs/trafficers to peddle their junk elsewhere.
On the other side, the administration has no problem alienating our long standing post WWII allies of England, England again, France, France again and Germany plus on again, off again friend Russia. We are living in a Bizarro world where we treat friends as enemies and enemies as friends. What's next? Socialism in place of capitalism? Oops, too late....
