Joe The Plumber, Meet Frank The Firefighter
Now liberal lobbyist groups are going after Frank the Firefighter because he is set to testify at (against) Sotomayor's hearing next week. Are they going after a certain policy he supports in an effort to educate the public? In a way there are because Frank Ricci just won his Supreme Court case, which overruled Sotomayor's decision, challenging the validity of his non-promotion due to race. Are they attacking the facts in the case? No, they are going after him personally by digging into his background and trying to find as much dirt on him as possible because he goes against their ideology. These liberal lobbyists want Sotomayor on the Supreme Court so bad they can taste it.
Lobbyist groups whether conservative, liberal, or special interest have too much power. Many have deep pockets with which they can spew their opinions as facts and sway legislators and citizens alike - or destroy private citizens' lives.
James Madison wrote in Federalist Paper #10 about how a republic, not a direct democracy, would deter factions (lobbyists, special interests) from holding power and affecting he outcome of our nation. Madison himself defines a faction:
"By a faction, I understand a number of citizens, whether amounting to a majority or a minority of the whole, who are united and actuated by some common impulse of passion, or of interest, adversed to the rights of other citizens, or to the permanent and aggregate interests of the community."(emphasis added)
So what happens when the majority is part of the faction? Madison believes that we should endeavor to prevent a faction gaining control of the majority - our current Congress, President - in order to stop a tyranny of the majority:
"Either the existence of the same passion or interest ina majority at the same time must be prevented, or the majority,having such coexistent passion or interest, must be rendered,by their number and local situation, unable to concert and carryinto effect schemes of oppression. If the impulse and the opportunity be suffered to coincide, we well know that neither moral nor religious motives can be relied on as an adequate control. They are not found to be such on the injustice and violence of individuals,and lose their efficacy in proportion to the number combined together,that is, in proportion as their efficacy becomes needful."
What the tyranny of the majority are planning to do to Frank the Firefighter is atrocious. They did it and continue to do it to Sarah Palin. They did it to Joe the Plumber. If this doesn't put you on notice that having a contrary ideology to the tyranny of the majority can be dangerous to your private life. The media is the Fourth Estate and have taken over the role of enforcing the ideology of the majority. If you should be brave enough to challenge the majority, the media is more than willing to defend the majority and destroy you by any means necessary.
